Indonesia’s Central Jakarta District Court will hold the first hearing on December 16 2025, in a high-profile corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology between 2019 and 2022, according to Bloomberg Technoz.
Former education minister and Gojek founder, Nadiem Makarim, who served from 2019 to 2024, is among four defendants named in the case.
The others are Ibrahim Arief, Mulyatsyah, and Sri Wahyuningsih.
Prosecutors have charged all four under Indonesia’s anti-corruption law and related statutes, alleging irregularities in the technical review and procurement process for Chromebooks and related software.
Authorities estimate that the alleged misconduct resulted in state losses of more than 2.1 trillion rupiah.
Investigators say the procurement process did not meet required standards and may have favoured specific vendors.
Separately, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating Nadiem for his alleged involvement in another corruption case linked to the procurement of Google Cloud services between 2020 and 2022.
The KPK has named five suspects in this case, including Nadiem and consultant Jurist Tan.
According to the KPK, some suspects overlap with the Chromebook case, as Nadiem was a key decision-maker in both projects during his tenure as minister.
However, the commission said it will handle the two cases separately due to differences in project scope, management structure and budgeting mechanisms.
The Chromebook case will go to trial at Jakarta’s corruption court, marking Nadiem’s first court appearance related to the allegations.
Meanwhile, the KPK said it continues to coordinate closely with the Attorney General’s Office to ensure both investigations proceed without overlap or procedural conflict, Bloomberg Technoz reported.
