Dragonpay Is Now Part of Xendit, Five Years After First Investment

Xendit has brought Dragonpay, one of the pioneers in alternative payments in the Philippines, into its platform, five years after first investing in the company.

Dragonpay’s 905 merchants and 44 banking and e-wallet partners will now gain access to Xendit’s platform. It unlocks more than 100 payment methods, payouts, financing, and cross-border transfers.

Founded in 2010, Dragonpay let banked and unbanked Filipinos transact online through online banking, e-wallets and over-the-counter channels at banks, convenience stores and remittance outlets nationwide.

Xendit first invested in the company in August 2021. Fintech News Singapore noted this deal at the time as a key part of Xendit’s broader Philippine expansion.

“Dragonpay wrote the first chapter of digital payments in the Philippines,” said Moses Lo, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Xendit.

Moses said that bringing the company into Xendit combines its trusted local network with Xendit’s regional infrastructure and cross-border capabilities.

He noted that this move aims to help Philippine merchants reach more customers and scale beyond the country.

Dragonpay founder Robertson Chiang explained that he established the company in 2010 to help every Filipino, whether banked or unbanked, participate in the digital economy.

He added that joining Xendit introduces a stronger technology platform, broader regional reach, and enhanced security. These new capabilities will back the reliable local service that their merchants already expect.

The move comes as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas continues pushing for wider digitalisation of payments in the country. Both Dragonpay and Xendit are registered Payment System Operators regulated by the BSP.

Dragonpay’s integration follows a pattern Xendit has used elsewhere in the region.

Xendit now operates across Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

As part of this wider footprint, Xendit now directly handles all Dragonpay merchant onboarding through its platform.
