Bank Indonesia and Timor-Leste’s central bank are exploring a cross-border QR payment link.
A memorandum of understanding signed by the two central banks covers payment and settlement systems, digital financial innovation and information sharing.
The agreement lays the groundwork for payment connectivity between the countries, including possible cross-border use of Indonesia’s QRIS payment system. No launch date has been announced.
Bank Indonesia expects the initiative to make payments easier and support economic activity between the two countries.
The governors of both central banks, Destry Damayanti and Hélder Lopes, signed the agreement in Jakarta on 25 September during FEKDI x IFSE 2026.
