Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) is urging young people to understand the opportunities and risks of real world asset (RWA) tokenisation.
Adi Budiarso, who oversees fintech, digital assets and crypto at OJK, spoke on the subject at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in Surabaya.
His public lecture was part of OJK’s Digital Financial Literacy (DFL) 2026 programme.
RWA tokenisation turns a real asset, or the economic rights tied to it, into a digital token. It runs on tools such as distributed ledger technology (DLT).
According to Adi, several such models have gone through the OJK sandbox. They cover tokens based on gold, government bonds and property benefits.
The sandbox lets OJK test new products for risk and consumer protection. That way, it can judge when they are ready for the wider public.
For this market to grow, the regulator said it needs legal certainty, good governance and secure technology. Each party’s rights and duties should be clear, too.
At the same time, Adi asked students to be careful with digital asset investments.
He said each one should be both legal and logical, and warned against offers that promise returns too good to be realistic.
Students should also do their own research, he added. Rather than follow others or act out of fear of missing out (FOMO), they should first weigh the risks.
During a panel session, speakers from regulators, ministries, industry groups and firms discussed RWA tokenisation and blockchain.
Topics included legal certainty over the assets behind each token and the rights of token holders.
Around 700 participants from UNAIR and other Surabaya universities joined in person and online.
