Swiss cloud firm PHOENIQS has signed an MoU with Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) on sovereign AI in Indonesia.
Their aim is to help banks, public bodies and manufacturers use AI. At the same time, their data, keys and audit trails would stay under local control.
NDP is a special economic zone in Batam, an island near Singapore. The partners said there is a growing need to follow the country’s data protection laws. These rules shape how firms use personal data.
Each side has a clear role. NDP will offer network links and data centre space in the zone.
PHOENIQS will supply the technology, which runs on its own cloud system. The platform uses confidential computing, which keeps data safe while in use. Clients will hold their own encryption keys.

“We will start with pilots alongside banks and manufacturers in Batam, demonstrating how advanced AI can be deployed while maintaining local control,”
said Marco Bardelli, Chief Business Officer at Nongsa Digital Park.

“Together with Nongsa Digital Park, we are bringing this model to Indonesia, so that Indonesian organisations can use the most advanced AI,”
said Thomas Taroni, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman at PHOENIQS.
The service, called Nongsa Sovereign AI, will also serve Singapore firms and banks with operations in Indonesia.
Separately, NDP plans a Sovereign AI Academy to train local engineers and technicians.
It will work with Infinite Learning, universities, polytechnics and Swiss education partners. It aims to hold an open-model hackathon in January 2027.
