Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kominfo) has proposed an additional budget of 12.6 trillion rupiah (US$773 million) for the 2026 fiscal year.
According to Suara.com, the increase would bring the ministry’s total budget to 20.36 trillion rupiah (US$1.25 billion), up from the earlier indicative allocation of 7.75 trillion rupiah (US$477.4 million).
Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid stated that the additional funding aims to improve internet access in Papua, sustain the National Data Centre (PDN), and advance AI technology as part of Indonesia’s broader digital transformation agenda.
The proposed funds will be allocated towards developing digital infrastructure, strengthening the digital ecosystem, and ensuring cybersecurity.
Further priorities include enhancing public communication, supporting media initiatives, and providing administrative and management assistance.
Hafid outlined these focus areas during a meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on 7 July 2025.
