Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara, Pandu Sjahrir, underscored on Monday (April 14) that the joint investment commitment totalling US$4 billion between Indonesia and Qatar will concentrate on several priority sectors.

As reported by Antara, these sectors include food security, energy security, downstream processing, digital infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism.

Indonesia and Qatar have reached an agreement on a joint investment commitment worth US$4 billion, with each nation contributing US$2 billion to the fund.

“The investments align with Indonesia’s (priorities). If we look at the themes, we see food security, energy security, downstream, digital infrastructure, healthcare, and the promising hospitality sector,”

Sjahrir stated during a doorstop interview at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on Monday.

Sjahrir noted that this joint investment commitment differs from Qatar’s previous investments in Indonesia’s housing sector, which had been highlighted by Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait.

He further explained that President Prabowo Subianto’s recent visit to Qatar had paved the way for this joint commitment between the two nations.

“Mr. Prabowo spoke with Qatar about investment to establish a joint investment fund worth US$4 billion, which comprises US$2 billion from them and US$2 billion from us. The projects will be developed in Indonesia,”

    he elaborated.

President Prabowo made this statement following his attendance at the CEO Forum meeting in Doha, Qatar, on Sunday (13 April).

The meeting was initiated by the Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Anindya Bakrie.

He emphasised that this commitment is part of Indonesia’s ongoing economic diplomacy efforts and serves as a positive sign of the strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

“The meeting went productive. We agree to increase cooperation, and they will invest together with Danantara,”

    he remarked.
